Introduction to Tasavvur

Pierce with
imagination.

Tasavvur, “pierce with imagination”, takes its idea from the evolution of Qawwali as a musical genre and as an emblem of the cultural, linguistic and spiritual confluence between Hindu and Muslim traditions. It brings the musical expression of love, devotion and poetry together on one stage.

Qawwali is the music of Sufism, whose followers learned from teachers rather than from texts. Tasavvur performs it with a lead vocalist trained in Hindustani classical music, a poet, and a band that mixes tabla and dholak with guitar and other instruments.
